Sushinho - Liverpool Street - London

I shudder when I see the words 'fusion' and 'Asian' used together in the same sentence.

Normally the outcome is rather...alien.

So, when Sushinho opened up another branch in Liverpool Street, London. (The original restaurant is in Kings Road, London)

I was apprehensive at first.

Brazilian/Japanese sushi...

Hmmm could it work? Or will it force me to have a tantrum?

When it comes what I put in my mouth... I'm normally a traditionalist.  ;]

Spider Roll

Rio and Samba Rolls

Samba Roll

Rio Roll

Prawn Tempura

Ambiance

When I happen to parade around Sushinho, it was a Friday lunch time and so the clientele were all city workers; clad in suits trying to impress eachother.

Anyway, once you step into Sushinho you are led to downstairs into the basement by bright-eyed , high-heels wearing hostesses. The space is large, airy and warm, courtesy of the sultry lighting and oak furniture.

ORDER! ORDER!

We ordered a selection of sushi and went for the:

Spider Roll £9.50 - Soft shell crab, wasabi tobiko, and chilli roll. The Spider roll, was visually appealing, tasty but I wanted to feel more of the kick of chilli. You know that zing you get on your tongue when it's lashed with a teasing drop of chilli?

Rio Roll £9.50 - Prawn, wasabi tobiko, and strawberry roll.

This was my favourite was the Rio roll, the roll was encased in a strawberry gel, and the sweet/tang of the strawberry strangely complimented the prawn and wasabi tobiko.

Samba Roll £9.50 - Eel, papaya, cucumber and tobiko roll.

Samba Roll - I was abit disappointed as I couldn't taste the eel nor the papaya.

Tempura £14.50 - Just prawns.

Holy mother of...... that is the most expensive tempura I've ever seen-  But the batter was light, the prawns were cooked to perfection and the accompanying sauces were a fine addition to the sushi platter we ordered.

YEAH OR NEVEH?

So aside from the eye-watering prices, the real question is - was it worth it?

The fusion of fruit with sushi, was actually a very good combination. I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't convinced about the combination of seafood and fruit at first, but now I'm a believer.

My only qualms is I would have liked to have had my sushi come all at once, instead of one dish at a time. This is purely because I'm one of those diners who like to see my entire feast before I destroy it, and also so I have the choice between which roll I want to play with first ;]

Sushinho, is definitely somewhere to go if you're feeling to impress; and since it doubles up as a cocktail bar. If impressing her with your culinary knowledge wasn't enough. You can always just get her drunk. hahaah :P

The sushi is beautifully presented, and if you have an adventurist palate, give this place a try!

Gallipoli Bazaar - Angel - London

An empire of Gallipoli restaurants line up along Upper Street, in Angel; London.

It's a pretty bold statement to have THREE of the same restaurants all perched proudly on the same road.

There's Cafe Gallipoli, Gallipoli Bazaar and Gallipoli Again; in that very order.

We decided to go to the one in the middle; Gallipoli Bazaar purely because the interior was the most lavish, dark and cosy.

The deep crimson walls, decadent silk sofas, flickering candle light, and dim Moroccan lamps created that lazy, border line seductive atmosphere.

Shish Kebap - Cubes of lamb cooked over charcoal, served with rice and salad

Sea Bass -Fillet of sea bass served with risotto, rocket leaves and a balsamic glaze

One more time...

Yummei yummei ?

Shish Kepab £11.50

I ordered the Shish Kepab, described as cubes of lamb cooked over charcoal, served with rice and salad.

One niggling thing is that I always like to have my shish done medium rare.

You know what I mean right? So it's just pink enough in the middle that you can still see those juices running.

Let's take a moment to visualise that. uhh.

Yeahh... you totally get it.

This shish wasn't medium rare.

It was medium. *HULK SMASH*

That aside, you could taste that char-grilled flavour from the lamb, and the meat was soft and tender.

So, I was still mighty satisfied.

Sea Bass £10.95

 J. had the Sea Bass - Fillet of sea bass served with risotto, rocket leaves and a balsamic glaze

The fish was fresh, and flakey.

So flakey that it melted in your mouth.

And I don't normally like fish.

I was totally converted after this dish.

Next the risotto, lightly seasoned and just sticky enough to make you want more. It was the perfect complement for the sea bass.

Would I return?

All 3 of my guests wanted a piece of my ass that night.

I totally pulled.

If you want to share my luck with the ladies, take her here.

Fellas' if she's not eating out of the palm of your hand afterwards, well... then you only have yourself to blame :P

Afternoon Tea at the Millennium Hotel London Knightsbridge *

Now it is no secret that I love cake.

Okay... that's an understatement.

I don't just love cake, I adore cake.

So, when I was invited to the Millennium Hotel in Knightsbridge London for Afternoon Tea, I simply couldn't say no.

At this event I met up with a few gorgeous bloggers; Helen, Lulu, Tania and Sophie to name a few :P

Before we could feast ourselves upon cakes, scones and cream, we were given a tour of a typical room in the Millennium Hotel.

Sadly, I had to behave and not bounce on the bed.... to test the softness/spring of the mattress of course.

The Tangerine

Afternoon Tea was served at the Tangerine, located in the Hotel; and we were also given the privilege of having Christine from Minding Manners etiquette consultancy; educating us on the history of Afternoon tea, and the etiquette of enjoying it.

Let's face it - we all wanted a close up ;]

Indulgent cakes, crumbly scones with clotted cream. Heaven.

Honest Burger - Soho - London

Summer is coming.

This means everyone is hitting the gym that bit harder to get those steel abs.

Everyone except me [despite the fact that I should really be training for the British 10k].

So, what do I do instead?

Go hunting for burgers...

I found Honest Burger's second branch hidden away in the side streets of Soho, the original Honest Burger joint is in Brixton.

You know if a restaurant is located opposite flats harbouring signs like this... you have totally hit the jackpot.

Scandalous.

[I jest, I jest] :P

Honest Burger Soho

Fritter Burger

Cheese Burger

Both Burgers - One Plate

Ambiance

The restaurant is quite small but feels roomy due to the high ceilings, and the simple vintage furnishings.

The Blues plays in the background, and the service is relaxed despite there being a queue of hungry burger fiends like myself; giving Honest Burger that chilled out atmosphere that everyone loves.

YES-O-METER

Fritter Burger: £6.50 - J. was going through a vegetarian mood and opted for the fritter; this was made from cauliflower, sweetcorn, shallots, spices, coriander, and had a cucumber yoghurt sauce.

The result? A light, well seasoned/spiced fritter with just enough of the cucumber yoghurt sauce lathered on top that it wasn't soggy.

Not bad for a vegetarian option, and definitely different to all the 'portobello mushroom burgers' you normally see in other Burger places for the veges.

Dare I say that the fritter burger was actually better than the cheese burger.

Cheese Burger: £8.00 - Beef, red onion relish, lettuce and the choice of Cheddar, Red Leicester or Stilton.

I like my burgers medium rare, purely because I'm a monster who likes to see my beef still beating; but unfortunately it came to me cooked medium, meaning it was alittle dry, and I found it slightly lacking in flavour, that not even the onion relish could save it.

I honestly was abit disappointed.

Chips: Faultless. Dusted with Rosemary salt, were crispy and so soft all at the same time. They are how chips should be.

There is potential here, but just doesn't quite hit the spot. But that just means I need to come back and resample the goods. ;]

Taro - Soho - London

I have a confession...

I've been totally holding out on you.

Sometimes, I just don't like to share.

I know, I know... shame on me.

No hard feelings, riiight?

So... I normally go to Taro when the hippo inside of me bears the same resemblance as Taro's iconic logo.

Just look at that happy fat face.

How can you resist that?!

Ambiance

There are two branches both conveniently in the Soho district, I am a normal resident at Mr. Taro's second love nest in Old Compton Street; but you can also wander to the original branch in Brewer Street.

Shimmying underground in the basement is Taro, Old Compton Street.

It's bright, airy and you are always warmly taken to your seats. However the tables are pretty small, and sometimes you can find yourselves rather close up with the people next to you. So, make friends :P

Beef Teriyaki Bento Box

Ebi Fry Bento Box

The menu is wide and it is large, there's copious variations of sushi, sashimi, ramen, rice, bento boxes... etc.

Naturally I would want to order the most biggest bento box available since I always want everything.

Important Information

The Beef Teriyaki Bento Box was £14.00

Normally, I expect to get top side beef finely sliced and cooked in teriyaki sauce.

But what was presented before me was so much better.

Steak. On. Rice.

*Jaw drop*

STEAK on a layer of onions and beansprouts, resting on rice and lathered with sticky teriyaki sauce.

The best part? The steak was cooked medium rare, so it was still juicy, tender and NOT chewy.

I think I'm in love.

Let's just scroll back up and marvel at the exquisite presentation of that hunk of meat.

The Ebi Fry Bento Box was £13.00

4 large king prawns, encased in a thin layer of golden panko crumbs.

You know it's been beautifully crafted when you bite down, and you see more of the prawn than you do of the panko crumbs.

No oily, and greasy aftertaste; just a pure, unadulterated, borderline sexual experience.

Bento Sides

The Bento Box included miso soup and rice as an accompaniment with:

Sushi:  Salmon and prawn nigiri - all absent the overpowering taste of rice vinegar, and were perfectly balanced in ratio of rice and fish.

Well... except the California roll, that was 90% rice and 10% Avacado and Crab. But that was just a little hiccup.

Salmon and Tuna Sashimi: The sashimi was really fresh, and was a very decent cut with plenty of flesh to wrap your lips around ;] Pass the wasabi baby.

Edmame beans and beansprouts: Good.
